Massage for Low Back Pain

Low back Pain

Massage Therapy may be the secret weapon when it comes to treating persistent low back pain.

Low back pain is one of the top reasons people seek out medical advice in the U.S., and if you do not understand the root cause of the pain it can be tough to treat. Studies show very few medical treatments reliably relieve it, and some can aggravate the problem. Why is that?

Most medical professionals do not take the time to do an in depth assessment on your current movement capacities. A lot of the times where you’re feeling your pain, is not where the root cause of the issue is coming from. A lot of the standard medical treatments in the U.S focus on treating the symptom and do very little to affect the cause of your pain.

That’s where a great Massage Therapist can help. A highly skilled Massage Therapist should be equipped with the tools necessary to assess how you are currently moving, how to improve movement in the areas that are “Stuck” using various massage therapy techniques as well as provide you with an at home exercise plan to help you manage your pain on your own.

What types of Massage are the best for Low Back Pain?

Massage for Pain Management

  • Pain management sessions are rarely full-body, your therapist will use assessment tools to find the primary source of your problem. Each session is customized to your individual needs based on your current condition and level of pain

Sports Massage

  • If your low back pain is caused from a specific sport or activity this may be the treatment for you. These sessions are tailored to treat specific issues related to your sport or activity. This type of massage is designed to support and improve your body’s recovery.

Deep Tissue Massage

  • Sometimes your pain is caused by daily life stressors and the best way to help these issues is to RELAX! Deep Tissue Massage is designed to relieve tense muscles and restore balance and relax your nervous system.

How Often Should I Receive Massage Therapy for Low Back Pain?

Typically, during the beginning stages of treatment we recommend once a week for the first 3-4 weeks to make sure your therapist is progressing you in the right direction and you are making noticeable improvements to your condition.

Once you’re pain free, we try to reduce the frequency of treatments to every other week or once a month. If you start stretching the massages out too far apart, your chances of finding yourself in pain again increases. If you neglect regular maintenance of your body, eventually you’ll have to start all over again to restore the proper movement of your body .  We recommend you listen to your body and don’t wait too long in an effort to save money.
